Contemplative Alliance Program - Charleston, June 2017
June 9, 2017
GPIW joins the Sophia Institute in Charleston, SC on June 9 and 10, 2017 for a Contemplative Alliance dialogue: "Restoring Wholeness - Within Ourselves, with Each Other & the Vast Community of Life"
This will be an intergenerational conversation between the local community of Charleston and thought leaders from contemplative communities around the USA about how to restore unity to our increasingly polarized world. We welcome to the discussion voices of concern, faith leaders and young adults. We’ve confirmed six emerging community change agents to join us as special guests in Charleston. They will represent Baltimore, Brooklyn, Philadelphia and the Cherokee and Wopanâak Native American Nations.
The two day dialogue will also honor and remember the victims of the AME Mother Emanuel Church massacre in Charleston that occurred in June 2015. We had the distinct honor of engaging the late Hon. Rev. Clementa Pinckney, former senior pastor of Mother Emanuel in our November 2014 dialogue. Rev. Pinckney is remembered by us as a wonderfully warm person, impactful faith leader and statesman.

In 2014, the Contemplative Alliance held its first community gathering in South Carolina in partnership with the Sophia Institute of Charleston. The objective was to identify local leaders interested in implementing contemplative approaches to addressing critical social issues and pressing ecological concerns at the state and local levels.
